"When I was young I learned my language of Bunuba by walking along and breathing it – everything in life is linked through language. I could ask a question about why the ant is there and the answer would tell me more than that. I could ask "why burn that country now?" The answer is because there are rules – rules about regeneration = food = animals = humans can survive. Kinships and relationships are with each other and with Country and all the living things on Country. Country is about natural events and seasons that can teach us. Ngarranggani are about the travelling beings for each culture, how that country was made, and include moral stories about how people should behave."
